87th Cleveland Pipe Band

Bill Florek has proved to be an important asset to this organization in so many ways. A relatively recent addition to the band, Bill continues to succeed both inside and outside the circle, owing largely to his determination and enthusiasm.

Bill took his first lesson only three years ago at the age of forty, and started with no prior musical background. Largely encouraged by his wife Brenda (a long time piper in the band), he began his new hobby. First taking lessons from Michael Crawley, he has also studied the art of snare drumming with Dominic M. Tancredi. Only eight months after his first lesson, Bill entered his first solo snare drumming competition. He has competed with success in several amateur grade levels.

Additionally, Bill is the Drum Sergeant for the Grade 5 Drum Corps, after only two seasons with the band. But his talents stretch far beyond drumming; Bill is also our resident technology guru. A highly successful Senior Programmer and Software Developer, Bill uses his technical know-how to help the band. Bill records performances and rehearsals, burns practice CDs, and transcribes music into his own pipe band music notation software, DrumNote Pro (now used by pipe bands all around the world). Bill is also the owner of Solutions In Software, a custom software development firm in Cleveland, OH.
